Greenies on 3, Greenies on 3; 1, 2, 3, GREENIES!

The Purpose

The purpose of this blog is to not only give my perspective of 58 Greene as a member, but to understand the different perspectives other current members, alumni, and fans have about the group.

I started this project for a Musicology seminar relating the effects of Media and Music, and how the immense online network had made music so approachable and different in so many ways. Thus, I took an idea for an area of music i truly enjoyed, 58 Greene A Cappella, and decided to promote the group’s music through online blogging.

Along the way however, it became apparent to me that 58 Greene lacked a strong connection with its founding members and old alumni, and my new goal then became to reach out to the Facebook and YouTube communities related to 58 Greene in hopes of digging up a bit of history and thoughts related to the group. Although I am still inevitably promoting 58 Greene, my aim is to have our friends and family grasp a better understanding of why we are part of the Greenie family.

I encourage all Greenies, former Greenies, and non-Greenies to help out by posting your thoughts in response to my posts, as well as shaping and defining what the different aspects of “being a Greenie” means.

  2. Love your blog. It’s amazing to see Greenies go on with such enthusiastic talent and with the new technology we didn’t have. I wonder what my experience would be now that I know how to produce and video produce – all that was foreign to me then. But I realize making music is such a spiritual thing, and vocalizing actually has a frequency resonating in your head therapeutic effect like when chanting in meditation, especially as a group – a physics truth. After a stint in the medical field, I returned to make music & am happier than ever. My experience with Greenies gave me that foundation so I will always be grateful. I don’t feel that in touch with alumni and shamefully haven’t returned for a show…well one right after I graduated. But I look forward to catching a show. Keep up the great work and legacy! xxx
